An indication of how things have slipped in the region is news that Afghan President Hamid Karzai has openly called for a truce with Taliban leader Mullah Omar. This was not how events were supposed to play out.The article is primarily about how the U.S. is finally figuring out that Pakistan is not necessarily our friend, and that al Qaeda and the Taliban are far from defeated. I've always thought that Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf has played the U.S. as effectively as Chalabi conned us in Iraq. Here we are years away from 9/11 and Osama bin Laden is still free (probably protected by the Pakistani army), the Taliban is still active, the mayor of Kabul Afghan President Hamid Karzai is negotiating with Taliban leader Mullah Omar, and the U.S Constitution is gutted.
I'm a very lucky person with every allergy known to man but still happy to be enjoying a wonderful life living in the best place in the world!
Great article implying the state of affairs Re: Pakistan, and by connection Afghan. I hope to god they have a plan B, because when the US abandons Musharraf, nuclear armed Pakistan could well go fundamentalist.
Gonna link it and credit you.
