Malito UPDATED
I looked all over to find a picture of Martha Alito striking the oh-so solemn pose behind her husband during his testimony in front of the Senate.

She has taken the art of non-verbal communication to a new level. If a Republican is asking questions, she smiles with this quiet smirk of approval. If a Dem is asking, she scrunches those eyebrows like a school-marm looking a hole through a wayward student. She's much more amusing to watch than actually listening to Scalito himself.

So what's the deal? Do they now have "murder boards" for the spouses? Did Martha Alito spend hours sitting in a room practicing the appropriate non-verbal response to the questions at hand? Is Alito sunk if Martha shakes her head approvingly as Ted Kennedy asks about CAP? I'm not sure. But let no detail go uncovered in creating a media image.

Added Later: Republicans are still thinking the whole confirmation process of Alito is pretty funny. I'm not laughing. And I'm not the only one.

UPDATE: Drudge (google it if you want to give him a hit, I won't link to him) is reporting this:
Judge Samuel A. Alito’s wife Martha left the confirmation hearing room in tears this evening, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) apologized to the Judge’s family for the behavior of his fellow committee members during the course of the last three days.

Sen. Graham said: “Judge Alito, I am sorry that you’ve had to go through this. I am sorry that your family has had to sit here and listen to this.”

Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have attacked Judge Samuel A. Alito over his membership in Concerned Alumni of Princeton and his involvement in the Vanguard case.

One senior Republican in the hearing room said of the situation: “After three full days of attacks against her husband’s character, Mrs. Alito had enough. Democrat behavior during this hearing has not only been wrong, it’s been embarrassing. Ted Kennedy is nothing but a bully.”
She was well trained in those spouse murder boards. It may be time to ..... that's right ..... pull out the Waaaambulance!

Oh, barf.
Let's compare what she has gone through to the woman who has lost her child in Iraq/Afghanistan; the woman who lost her child to Katrina; the woman whose public assistance has been cut and she wonders whether to eat or have heat (while trying to get by on 1/2 of her medicine); the woman who was unable to get help for a suicidal child.
We need more 'bullies' like Ted Kennedy. Keep hammering the bastards!

Okay, so why did they "have" to sit there and listen? Since when was their attendance mandatory? If the woman can't listen to some tough questioning, then she should stay out of the commmittee room. Jeez, what did she think it was going to be? Hasn't she read any newspapers?

Mrs. Alito's "spontaneous" tearful exit from the hearing room today ranked right up there with Lynn Cheney's "spontaneous" outburst on CNN in front of a crowd of supporters right after the last Bush-Kerry debate, saying that "Kerry is a baaaaad man!" for saying that the Cheneys love their gay daughter.

These people haven't an authentic bone in their bodies. It's really is all "Stepford," with everything (including emotions) practiced, rehearsed, "made all pretty."
