In the spirit of being fair, I offer this article by Jim Maceda of NBC News on the escalation. He makes the best, and only case I've seen thus far, of why the escalation might have a chance to work.

Even Maceda recognizes that it's a long shot with many caveats. Frankly I think Maceda is being a bit over-optimistic about the progress in Afghanistan, which is the foundation of his argument. But he at least connects some dots of why the tactical changes in Iraq may improve things. I doubt it. But give er' a read.
