WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A probe into possible wrong-doing by former Housing Secretary Henry G. Cisneros that ran more than 10 years is closing with an accusation by the investigating prosecutor that the Clinton administration stemmed an inquiry into whether Cisneros evaded paying income tax, the New York Times reported in its Thursday edition. If these accusations are true, shame on Clinton.
A report by David M. Barrett, which concludes the longest independent counsel investigation on record, costing some $21 million, says Justice Department officials refused to grant him the broad jurisdiction he wanted, the newspaper said.
It says that, for example, Attorney General Janet Reno said Barrett could only look at one tax year.
