Am I the only one on the planet who is totally bored with the whole immigration bru-ha-ha?
Like the "drug war", it's a non-issue. As long as there is the economic disparity between the U.S. and Mexico (and Latin America in general), nothing is going to really change. No one in their right mind really thinks that criminalizing illegals and those that help them, building walls, increasing immigration guards, or penalizing employers is really going to stop illegals from seeking opportunity. I think the wacko right-wingers like non-Sennsensebrenner know. The recent immigration kabuki dance is simply another election year wedge issue that will go nowhere. It has had the positive back-firing effect of galvanizing support of hispanics for Democrats. But in terms of actually stopping illegals? Nada.
I'm gonna make a prediction. By the first of 2007, you'll not see a bit of news in the media about illegal immigration.
