Eating Your Own
When your country is bankrupt, continually spending more than it makes, it becomes necessary to start to liquidate itself:
The Bush administration Friday laid out plans to sell off more than $1 billion in public lands over the next decade, including 85,000 acres of national forest land in California.

Most of the proceeds would help pay for rural schools and roads, making up for a federal subsidy that has been eliminated from President Bush's 2007 budget.
In the old days, when our country needed schools and roads, we used to pay for them with taxes. But now, we sell our natural resources, likely in corrupt and underpriced deals, in order to pay for necessities.

Guess it doesn't really matter. Might as well get rid of those pesky, "hard to manage", pristine forested areas before they die due to global warming.

Why don't we just sell Alaska to China while we are at it?
