U.S., Israel and Iran
Glenn Greenwald has a great post detailing the Jewish connection to Democratic politics with regard to our military policies in the middle east.

He shows that indeed Hillary Clinton and John Edwards are likely pandering to the Jewish donors who are numerous and powerful (New York Jews are labeled the Democratic ATM). Go read it for the details.

It's crucial that the American public, who does not favor intervention in Iran to protect Israel (yeah, this surprised me too) influence Democratic politicians to resist the very powerful money impact of those who are hawkish in defense of Israel. I, too, believe the U.S. has a close and protective relationship with Israel. However it's a two way street in which Israel has to demonstrate a real desire to pursue diplomatic solutions in the middle east instead of going to the military solution at the drop of a hat. To pander to these hawkish Israeli interests is to reinforce Bush, and the crazy doctrine of preemptive war on a whim .... a policy that really does have to be repudiated .... and to lead to an even larger disaster for the U.S. in the middle east.
