Consumers have certainly been holding up their end of the spend spend spend economy. Corporations, on the other hand, aren't so stupid.

I don't understand what "undistributed corporate profits" means. I'd appreciate your taking the time to explain.

These are profits that have accumulated and not been allocated or spent on anything. Profits are typically either a) distributed to shareholders or (more commonly b) reinvested in the business in capital spending.

What that chart suggests is that while profits are at record levels, corporations are banking the money and not spending it. Why would they do that? They are afraid of the economics of the future and are putting money away for a "rainy day", unlike consumers.
