Fun With Obama
Atrios is having some fun with Barack Obama today.

Aside from the snark, Atrios makes a very good point. Obama has routinely been scolding Democrats lately on "values" and "morals", and how liberals don't speak to the heartland of Amurika enough:
Our failure as progressives to tap into the moral underpinnings of the nation is not just rhetorical, though. Our fear of getting "preachy" may also lead us to discount the role that values and culture play in some of our most urgent social problems.
Yet, as of this writing anyway, it appears that Obama is prepared to vote for the torture bill. Personally, the more I know Obama the less I like him. A talented speaker? Yes. But I think he's an arrogant sanctimonious politician as well.

This is a perfect instance of how the Senate ruins politicians for future executive office. Kerry experienced it, and Obama will too. He's developing a voting record that will be used to point out his hypocracy and weaken his appeal as an executive.

By the by, the torture bill being rushed into existence is even worse than we thought. It's apparently unreadable, and has a whole bunch of little hidden bombs in it that few are aware of. I won't go through all the gory details here, go read Digby for details.

Your take on Obama is justified. He is no patriot. He is self-serving. But, he is a Dem, and at this point useful once we get real fighters and legislators in place.

Maybe then, he can stop licking boots.
