Despite it's protestations, it appears that the video of Saddam getting his neck stretched
was shot by an al Maliki aide. If so, you have to ask yourself why al Maliki would want the event recorded and released to the internet (world)?
To me it would suggest that placating the Shiites is far more important to al Maliki than national reconciliation. How in the world can there ever be progress in Iraq, as the U.S. would measure it, when it's leaders have an agenda that is quite distinctly different from the U.S.?
This is just further evidence that a unified Iraq is lost and that the fighting between Sunni and Shia will continue until one is wiped out, or until the country is exhausted. And apparently, the U.S. will continue to be caught in the middle getting killed by both sides, at least as long as Generalismo Bush is running foreign policy.
Update: I hadn't noticed it before, but the above linked article attributes the video to the proliferation of "amateurs" taking video and exposing the powerful. Huh? Does anyone really think that a video was released without al Maliki's knowledge? I guess the answer is "yes, the New York Times". Ummmm, good kool-aid.
