I just wanted to add a bit
to my post about the Lancet Study on Iraqi deaths.
First, the study done in Iraq used the same methodology used to calculate casualties in other conflicts. Those statistics are routinely accepted by governmental agencies including the State Department and White House.
Second, the polling done relied on reportees including proof of reported death. Randy Rhodes reported last night that some 91% of the violent deaths reported by those polled where backed up with death certificates proving not only the death, but the manner of death, which is why the study has such good specificity on violent deaths (vast majority of them) vs. death from other causes.
Of course Bush and Republicans have to try to discredit this study. But as my ole' scientist buddy Dean Edell said on his radio program today, unless you have data or proof the study is inaccurate, you really have to accept the study as valid.
