Newsie
Stories have been floating around the internets about how the President has decided to ignore over 750 different laws via his "signing statements". While an interesting statistic, it's not really news. Anyone who reads this blog knows that Bush routinely breaks the law and justifies it under his theory of the unified executive, aka dictatorship.

What I found to be news was this:
Judging from a quickie Nexis search, the number of front-page stories the LAT, NYT, and Post have had on the president's signing habit: one.
No wonder Stephen Colbert got such a tepid reaction as he totally skewered the Press Corpse the other night at the White House Correspondents dinner. The embarrssment and idiocy of the press was openly evident as Colbert actually, like, spoke the truth to everyone present, including the Preznit himself. The laziness of the press is unprecidented and playing a key role in the slow disintegration of the Republic itself. Here's an example of the reaction:
Early word was Bush and some assembled press guests were not amused. Not difficult to see why: "Colbert not only lampooned and humiliated Bush and his handlers, but the lapdog media that has propped him up—in public, live, and for a national audience. It was his, and C-SPAN's, finest hour. And you won't hear cable news talking about it, because Colbert rubbed their nose in their failure." (Note this New York Times article on the dinner made no mention of Colbert.)
Tough shit.
